It's nice to see the pieces falling into place. The Leafs are loaded on the wings, have some good defensive prospects, but lack the one piece going forward to being a contender. It's often said, that a team that competes for a Stanley Cup, needs an elite number one centre, a top 5 goaltender and a Norris caliber defenseman. We have the centre, maybe the goaltender, but uncertainty at defense. Rielly will cap out as a top pair defenseman, on this team, but we don't have the Norris caliber stud, that can play 30 minutes, in all situations. There is still time to draft one, or steal one from another team. The rest seems to be in place, going forward.

you dont want a 30 minute per night d. not at all. i think you are underestimating rielly. remember he is the same age or younger than many of the prospects in this blog series. i expect a huge year from future captain morgan.

You don't know what the Leafs have in Rielly. This will be his first season as the team's 1D. I agree Shanny needs to find another defenceman to play on the top pair, but Rielly just might be that #1 guy.

Carrick and Brown are contenders, not challengers IMO.
The only thing holding them back are veteran contracts on the roster.

Prospect blog..... Lists one of the most experienced player on the team.

On what planet would one not think nylander isn't a cornerstone?

I'll agree Brown might have that issue. However if Carrick can't beat out Marincin and Corrado, then he isn't ready for the NHL.

Interesting read. One point I found weird though was comments about the Suban trade. They traded him cause price is due in 2018 and they can't afford both Suban and price after 2018........ Weber still signed past 2018 right?
